As the CEV Champions League draws the curtain on the club volleyball season, attention now shifts to the international stage. The national team calendar begins and stretches until September 28, leaving many domestic clubs facing a six-month competitive pause—a difficult period for maintaining community engagement, attracting sponsors, and motivating players.
Amid this backdrop, a significant triumph in French volleyball took place. Tours VB claimed their 10th French Championship title, defeating Poitiers in straight sets (29-27, 25-21, 25-17) on home court. This victory, paired with their earlier 3-1 win in the first leg, meant they avoided the nerve-racking Golden Set that haunted them in last year’s finals.
Ryan Sclater led the charge with 17 points, while Alexandre Strehlau added 16 points and was named MVP.
The title ties Tours with AS Cannes for the most championships in French volleyball history, marking a period of consistency at the highest level. Despite a turbulent season—marked by injuries, staff changes, and a mid-table start—Tours regrouped to peak at the right time.
Now, with many players joining the national squad, Tours celebrates a well-earned victory while clubs across Europe prepare to navigate a long off-season filled with uncertainty and opportunity alike.
