Germany’s DRESDNER SC has a very busy schedule to cope with as they are participating in three different competitions at the moment. Last week they made the semis of the national cup with a straight victory and on Saturday they showed once more they are in good shape as they beat the second-placed team of the Bundesliga, Rote Raben VILSBIBURG.

On Wednesday DRESDNER SC will resume their campaign in the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League by hosting last year’s silver medalists Rabita BAKU of Azerbaijan. The game will be presented by the main sponsor of the club, the Ostsächsische Sparkasse. The local fans are very much looking forward to this anticipated game especially since Rabita is one of the hottest contenders for the final crown.

“Of course Rabita is the big favourite of our Pool together with Omichka OMSK REGION. They have three strong and well-known outside hitters on their roster. We want to play our best and keep the game as close as possible. We would like to win at least one set while one point from an eventual 2:3 defeat would be a dream” says DRESDNER SC head coach Alexander Waibl.

Rabita is filled up with international volleyball stars that are all playing for their respective national teams with the only exception being Serbia’s Sanja Starović. The group includes the likes of Poland’s Katarzyna Skowronska-Dolata, Puerto Rican Aurea Cruz, and Australian opposite Rachel Rourke. Rabita’s setters are Katarzyna Skorupa of Poland and Nootsara Tomkom from Thailand. Their head coach Eldar Yusubov can also count on two strong middle-blockers, namely Serbia’s Natasa Krsmanovic and USA Brittnee Cooper.

DRESDNER SC will also welcome back USA libero Kayla Banwarth who spent the last season in Dresden before moving to Baku.

“We will be happy to see Kayla againDRESDNER SC mentor Alexander Waibl says.
