The great Italian expert Marcello Abbondanza has agreed to take over the Greece Women’s Volleyball National Team.
The Greek federation (EOP) found a successor to Guillermo Naranjo on the bench of its women’s national team. The Spaniard left the bench in October. Instead of him came the renowned Italian expert Marcello Abbondanza, currently at the helm of the Turkish club Türk Hava Yolları, which gave him permission to start another job.
The last time Abbondanza commanded a national team was between 2017 and 2018 when he was at the helm of Canada Women. In the 2017/18 season, he set a world record for the number of finals as a head coach. Abbondanza achieved 9 finals in 4 different countries: Italy, Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Poland. Overall, he won one Azerbaijani Championship, Polish Championship, and Polish Cup apiece, 2 Turkish Championships and Cups apiece, one Turkish Super Cup, and 2 Italian Cups and CEV Cups apiece.
