Their opponents – mentored by Brazilian head coach Angelo Vercesi, who previously worked in Italy – have left a good impression in their pre-season matches. Azeryol signed for the 2013/2014 season Italian wing-spiker Chiara Di Iulio as well as Germany’s national team captain Margareta Anna Kozuch, who spent the last year in Busto Arsizio with Unendo Yamamay. Serena Ortolani – back after maternity leave – and Camilla Mingardi won’t fly to Baku where Unendo Yamamay will line-up also two youngsters, wing-spikers Giulia Angelina and Alice Degradi. Setter Joanna Wolosz and opposite player Marika Bianchini are recovering from injury but shall be included on the starting six for the match with Azeryol.
“We always have very high ambitions” says General Manager Massimo Aldera. “We think we can vie for the highest results in Italy as well as in the CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League. Some of our players are still not in their best shape but we are confident that we can catch a good start of this adventure come Tuesday in Baku”.
