WL: Rezende is angry – “Referees made a lot of mistakes”; Kovač – “I’m angry too”

Iran captain Marouflakrani Saeid said that Iran could aim to win the FIVB World League finals in Florence after his side stunned world No.1 Brazil with a 3-1 defeat.

This was an amazing first match. No one expected us to win. But we made it to the final six, and now to the final four in a very tough pool. Fourth place would be fine for us, but who knows, maybe we can aim for gold.” said Saeid.

Iran coach Slobodan Kovac demanded more from his team despite the great result.

“I’m angry because in the third set, the team didn’t play as well as it should have – we were unfocused. But this is still a great result, and tomorrow we will try to beat whoever we find in front of us.”

Brazil captain Bruno Rezende was unhappy.

We came to win this match, and we had our chances, but the judges made a lot of mistakes. Now we maybe have to play Italy in the semifinals, which will be difficult – they are a great team. But we will prepare and focus.

Eduardo Loh Lucas added:

We came here to win, but some players didn’t start playing immediately. Whoever we play in the semifinals, we will face with the same attitude: we are here to win.”
