The 2015 edition of the elite CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League – whose preliminary Pools were drawn last June 27 in Vienna at the Hofburg Palace – marks the beginning of a new era.

As already announced that night, all matches will be played with a specific Mikasa ball, the MVA200CEV.

This volleyball stands out for its modern, innovative visual appearance, combining yellow and green, and represents a milestone in Volleyball history since it is the very first volleyball designed by the Japanese manufacturer for one specific competition.

However, the launch of the Mikasa MVA200CEV is only one of a few innovative actions that will accompany the 2015 edition of Europe’s elite club competition. As part of a wider campaign, all libero players will be wearing green shirts, CEV President André Meyer announced at the CL seminars in Vienna.

The CEV President also put an emphasis on the role that technology will be playing to further enhance the appeal of the competition. With this in mind, teams participating in the 2015 edition of the CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League are able to apply to use an approved CEV Video Challenge System in any match of the upcoming season.

On top of this, starting from the Playoffs 12 Round onwards, each organising club will have to provide the appointed referees with a wireless headset communication system in order to improve communication between the match officials and aid the spectacle.

In order to foster innovation and the role of technology in modern Volleyball, CEV is also going to purchase one LiteScore system with three connected tablets for coaches for each team participating in this year’s competition. LiteScore is the new interactive system used to display scores and flag events.

It is a portable two-faced led scoreboard that can be used at all levels and can display scores during matches or training sessions. LiteScore connects to e-Scoresheet to automatically display the official score, the winning sets, the number of time-outs and substitutions requested by teams.

The criteria used to determine the position of each team in a pool have also changed following a decision of the CEV Board of Administration. As from the 2014/2015 season, the standing will be determined as follows:

–    Matches won

–    Ranking Points (3-0 or 3-1: 3 points, 3-2: 2 points, 2:3: 1 point, 0-3 or 1-3: 0 point)

–    Set Quotient

–    Match Point Quotient

–   If the tie continues, as per their match point quotient, the teams will be placed according to the result(s) of the match(es) between the teams concerned.

1. How will this yellow-green ball be on Gerfloor colours now? Or CEV will change also Gerfloor colours and clubs will buy new ones (new expences)
2. Clubs use libero shirt for their personal sponsors. CEV gets exclusive right for libero sponsor? (Less income for clubs)
3. Radio headsets, LiteScore systems, video check… (New expences for clubs)

Volleyball, our product is VOLLEYBALL. What did you do about this?! And who will cover for all this expences mentioned above?
