Italy was just too strong for Tunisia and seized the opening win with huge point difference – 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-8). Cristina Chirichella with 12 and Francesca Piccinini with 10 were leading home team toward the victory. The top scorer of Tunisia was Fatma Agrebi with 7 points.
USA collected three points against Mexico, but with perhaps more trouble than it was expected – 3-1 (19-25, 25-11, 25-20,25-14). Mexico fought bravely, even won the first set, but that was all.
Kimberly Hill scored 15 points for the winning side, while Nicole Fawcett added 14. However, the top scorer of the match came from Mexico, as Andrea Rangel made 20 points.
