Whitney, who signed a contract with the German women’s volleyball team Allianz Stuttgart this summer, informed the management of Leonas that she will send a copy of her contract to prove her unavailability.
Thus, Whitney became the second Leonas player from last season who will not return for the next campaign due to commitments in foreign leagues. The setter and also the captain Raymariely Santos signed with Altay, the club from Kazakhastan.
Whitney was the fifth best scorer in the recent Puerto Rican Women’s Volleyball Tournament (LVSF) with 416 points in 93 games played.
His great performance, coupled with the fact that her grandmother is a Puerto Rican native, captured the interest of the Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation (FPV) in having her for the Puerto Rican Women’s National Team but Whitney declined to integrate herself to it.
Departure of Whitney will cause Leonas to look to the transfer market for a Puerto Rican player, because the Penn State graduate played as domestic player.
