The third seed Železničar Lajkovac won the Banka Poštanska štedionica Superliga 2018/2019 as they beat the top seed Jedinstvo Stara Pazova in the playoff finals, becoming the first team in the history of the competition to make a turnaround in the final series from 0-2 to 3-2. Game 5 of the finals ended in straight sets in the favor of Železničar, partially 25-13, 25-23 and 25-21.
Thus, Vizura’s five-year domination over Superliga came to an end. Furthermore, Serbia gained the Women’s titleholders outside the capital city of Belgrade for the first time since 2005 when Jedinstvo Užice clinched the last of their nine championship trophies. By winning the title, Železničar rounded up a successful season in which they claimed the national Cup as well.
Jelena Mladenović top-scored for the new champions in Game 5 with 12 points, while Maja Savić set up 6 kill blocks and finished the season as the league’s best blocker (152 kill blocks). Isidora Kockarević also noted 12 points but for Jedinstvo.
