The 22-year-old opposite Thompson, who is playing her final college year at the University of Cincinnati women’s volleyball team – the Bearcats, made a stunning single-game scoring output last night. In the NCAA Division I match against the UConn Huskies, which her team won by a 3-2, Thompson put down 51 points (50 kills and one ace)!
Thompson broke the single-match scoring record of the conference in which her team is competing – the American Athletic Conference and became just the seventh player in NCAA Division I history to score 50 or more points in a match, the first after 20 years. Breaking records is not unordinary for her as she broke two records last year: the record of her university for single-season kills (827) and the NCAA record for kills per set (6.27).
Thompson made her debut for the U.S. National Team this summer in the FIVB Volleyball Nations League in which she made some striking displays such as the one against Brazil. Ultimately, she won the gold medal in the event. Next season, Thompson will exit her collegiate career and will be ready to sign her first professional contract. After the way she has been playing in the last few months, we are sure that numerous top-level teams in Europe and beyond will try to secure her signature…
