The Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation harmonized its regulations with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) agreement and informed that athletes from the countries that are members of this organization will not be considered foreigners in Russian competitions in football, hockey, basketball, volleyball, handball, water polo and field hockey. The EAEU member states are Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

It was a result of the EAEU court ruling that said restrictions on the participation of athletes who are citizens of the EAEU in national sports competitions were inadmissible.
