The New Caledonian team has banked five wins in the tournament so far while both Tahiti and Fiji have lost one match prior to today’s game.

Tahiti dominated their match against Fiji with their attack and service reception eventually taking the match 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-12).

The power of the Tahiti serve saw the Fijian team make numerous reception errors, particularly with their jump serving. Tahiti’s Valeria Vaki and Lokelani Vero lead the way for their side, with valuable contributions from the whole team. Fiji’s Jiko Koyoibuavoi won valuable points for her side with her strong spikes and blocks but Tahiti was just too strong an opponent. Fiji will play Tuvalu in the last of their pool matches on Wednesday.

In the men’s competition, Papua New Guinea proved too strong for a spirited Tuvalu winning their match 3-1, keeping their unbeaten record intact. Although the combination play and quick attack of Papua New Guinea was too good for Tuvalu, it did not stop Tuvalu from keeping the   on their opponents, who had to work hard to take the set 27-25.

New Caledonia, the other men’s team looking for a spot in the finals took on Vanuatu coming away with a 3-0 win. They will take on Papua New Guinea on Wednesday.

The 2013 Pacific Mini Games has seen the reappearance of the men’s and women’s teams from Nauru, who has shown an impressive improvement during the tournament – their first international volleyball in 18 years.
