Tianjin are confidently marching toward defending the title in the Chinese Women’s Volleyball Championship.
Tianjin finished the regular season (three stages) of the 2021/22 Women’s Super League undefeated, earning themselves 13 wins in as many games (3 of 3 in the Final Six), with the last one coming against the biggest rivals for the title, Shanghai.
The head coach on the losing side Wang Zhiteng decided to rest a few of his pillars (Kim Yeon-Koung, Jordan Larson, Gao Yi, Liu Zhening…) in this match given that his team’s chances of sweeping Tianjin today and thus claiming No.1 for the playoffs were slim. So, the reigning champions had an easy job: 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-12). Li Yingying top-scored the winners with 18 points. Wang Yuanyuan set up five blocks.
Shanghai will enter the semi-finals as No.2, while Jiangsu and Liaoning (both swept their respective rivals in the last round) claimed No.3 and No.4.
