Japan is always difficult opponent when it’s a host, but Argentina scared it away with a confident play, establishing dominance from the first to last point and not letting home crowd in Tokyo to have too many things to be joyful about 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-21).

Argentinians opened the match with 3-0 which determined the rest of the Set 1. With a good serving, the South Americans prevented recognizable fast attacks of Japanese players 16-10. At 19-15 for Argentina, Japan approached to 19-18 and even managed to level at 24-24. Still, with Yanagida’s long serve and Japanese poor reception in the next point, it was 26-24 for Argentina.

It seemed that Ishikawa emptied the ammunition in the first set, but Conte has just started to use his in Set 2 and Argentina took three key points in a row at 13-all. Solé’s block and De Cecco’s ace sealed Japanese destiny in this set 25-22.

At 5-all in Set 3, Conte stepped on a service line at 4-5 and didn’t move in the next four points giving his team a decisive 3-point lead. Then, Ishikawa woke up and with Shimizu’s support, led Japan to 13-all. Argentina scored three in a row at that result and maintained the gap to the end mostly thanks to Palacios and Solé 25-21.
