Thailand suffered a heavy defeat against Japan in Round 4 of the World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Tokyo, Japan for which they mostly blame referees.

“In my life, something like this has never happened. I’ve been a volleyball coach for 20 years and never saw this. I asked for a clarification why the touch panels were not displaying player substitutions and was given a red card. Then I asked again why the tablets were not displaying the substitutions and got the second red card. It was very unfair to the Thai team. We play with sportsmanship. This call was not right. The match is over now and we have to accept the result,” said Thailand’s head coach Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai.

“The system should be reconsidered. We couldn’t change players even though my players were in the changing area,” he added.

Thailand received both red cards in the tie-break and annulled huge lead which they had in those moments. Their players left court in tears.

Japan’s head coach Masayoshi Manabe stated that for decades during which he has been in volleyball, he very rarely had the chance to see this kind of match.

Every coach can ask to second referee. But when it comes to play with Japan in Tokyo, you can’t ask. Just shut up and lose, because Japan has a lot of money for Volleyball. What a unfair sport!!
