In Pool A, Iran handled Australia a 3-1 defeat in its first outing in the Championship. Iran started well and led their opponents before Australia rallied back to level the scores at 17-17. But attacking errors by Australian spikers costed them dearly and lost the first set 20-25. In the second set, Iran kept their form, taking it without meeting much challenges at 25-12. Though the guest team clinched the third set, Iran gave no chances to them in the fourth set and won the match 25-20,25-12,20-25,25-23.
Iran will play against Turkmenistan, who lost to Australia 2-3 in the first day, to vie for the pool top ranking on Saturday.
