The legendary Polish setter Śliwa, currently the head coach of the club competing in the country’s 3rd division (II Liga Kobiet), TS Wisła Kraków, decided to return to the court at the age of 50! In January, she was officially registered to compete. The winner of the CEV European Championship twice (one-time Best Setter), Polish Championship 3 times, Italian Championship one time, and CEV Cup Winners’ Cup one time played until the age of 45 (retired in 2015 while wearing the jersey of Grot Budowlani Łódź).
As she stated for TVP Sport, Śliwa decided to return to an active career due to the fact that the club’s starting setter is injured, while the backup setter often complains about health issues. Śliwa didn’t make her re-debut yet. However, she joined the omnipresent trend of female volleyball players that have returned or plan to return to an active career in advanced age for it, in the last few months, such as Piccinini or Kirillova.
This trend has occupied the men’s volleyball as well.
