“Our last game with Impel was not that good but this happens if you are playing every three, four days” says Atom Trefl captain Izabela Belcik. “We just can’t think too much about this defeat; we have to reset our minds and look forward to the next match” she added on Tuesday as she attended a special media event together with Poland’s Volleyball heroine Malgorzata Glinka-Mogentale, who will be representing the likes of Vakifbank tonight.
If Atom claimed the first match of the New Year by edging Aluprof BIELSKO-BIALA 3:2 before losing in straight sets to Impel WROCLAW, Vakifbank comes from a winning streak spanning 18 consecutive matches. Vakifbank is definitely one of the major favorites to make it to the final four and hence the question comes about the real chances for Atom to stand such world-class opponent.
“First, we need to avoid unforced errors as we know that they make only a very few” stresses Belcik. “We shall keep our mistakes to a minimum thereby emulating our opponents”.
Vakifbank traveled to Gdansk on Monday; the players from Turkey look relaxed but focused at the same time. “Our mood is great and we are in good shape” says Glinka. “However, Volleyball is a very specific sport and you never know what may happen. This is a really important match for us and we want to make it to the next round. I am sure that Atom sees it the same way, so we’ll all enjoy a world-class match on Wednesday night”.
