In a development that underscores the sport’s ongoing commitment to integrity, the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has officially suspended former Polish national team player Kamila Witkowska for eight months due to an anti-doping rule violation.
The suspension, which took effect on May 6, 2025, follows the discovery of canrenone—a prohibited diuretic—in a sample taken during an out-of-competition test in April 2024. The announcement comes despite Witkowska having already concluded her professional volleyball career in April 2025.
According to the FIVB, the decision was finalized after an appeal and additional review by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The CAS partially overturned an earlier ruling by the Polish Anti-Doping Agency (POLADA), leading to the athlete’s official suspension.
“Volleyball player Kamila Witkowska was suspended with eight (8) months of ineligibility commencing on 6 May 2025 for anti-doping rule violation,” stated the FIVB.
Witkowska’s career highlights include stints with top Polish clubs such as DevelopRes Rzeszów, ŁKS Commercecon Łódź, and MOYA Radomka Radom. She notably clinched the Polish national championship with ŁKS in 2023 and helped the national team secure a bronze medal in the 2024 Nations League.
While the ban no longer affects her current professional status, should she decide to return to competitive volleyball, she would only be eligible to play again after January 6, 2026.
