Former head coach of Poland (1998-2000) Ireneusz Mazur thinks that, despite 2016 was not very successful for Men’s Volleyball National Team, fundamental changes are not necessary.

“Objectives for the Polish National Team in the Olympic year were set very clearly: firstly, promotion to the Games and then, getting a medal there. The promotion has been accomplished throughout very difficult process of qualification, which is a plus. The main objective in Rio, however, was not accomplished so it casts very strong shadow on actions of the coaching staff,” Mazur said.

This year was one of the most unsuccessful years of the Polish Men’s NT recently, but Mazur thinks that national team does not need to suffer a revolution.

“Recently, every our national team coach was sacked in his second year on the job. Personally, I am not in favor of frequent changes but of allowing coaches to last at least four years. The last coach who nearly had that opportunity was Raúl Lozano (2005-2008),” he added.

All the audience speaks about the Atiga. And the real truth is that Blain is the brain of the team. Antiga is only the actor. This is the real truth. He was popular in Poland as a player, and nothing else. Can you imagine him as a coach without Blaine?

It is good that nowadays exists in Poland an extensive discussion on future of S. Antiga on websites, where it is possible to read also reasonable opinions of experts.. Internet, languages and Google Translators help… However some of them are going deeper into a core of issues and whole volleyball… Unfortunately in some other countries nothing like this exist yet… Poland is very important country in a professional volleyball world, together with Italy and Russia, so that it is followed also from abroad, what going on there….
In my lay view, without S. Antiga, and courageous selection made by former bosses of PVF to hire him, Poland would not win WCH 2014. S. Antiga took a crucial, risky decision before WCH not to nominate a very popular B.Kurek. This decision was absolute unique, bold and brought them the immediate result – gold.. However from a longer view, this probably could create a hidden problem… I suppose, many fans, officials and players did not forget it … Of course there are more reasons not to be successful later on. Finaly, the last match in WCup 2015 in Japan, had broken a spirit of this team, which did not recover under media and public presure, stress and fatigue etc…
