As the Russian Volleyball Federation (VFV) website informed, on the basis of inspection visits, the FIVB approved eight cities to host matches of the 2022 Men’s World Championship. These cities are Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, and Ufa. The two more host cities will be announced over the next year.

As it was known from earlier, the tournament will be held from August 26 to September 11, 2022, with the participation of 24 national teams. In the first stage (August 26-29), 24 teams will be divided into six pools of four. The two best teams from each pool, plus the four best ranked third-placed teams, will enter the second stage. In the second stage (September 2-4), these 16 teams will be divided into four pools of four. The winners of these pools, plus two best second-placed teams will move to the third stage – Final Six (September 7–9). These six teams will be divided into two pools of three. The two best teams from each of the pools will qualify to the semifinals (September 10). The match for third place and the final will take place on September 11.

We remind you that the qualifications for the 2022 FIVB Men’s World Championship will be played in a fundamentally different format than before. The two teams secured an automatic ticket for the tournament – the hosts Russia and current world champions Poland. Spots for the World Champs will gain two of the best teams from each of the continental championships in 2021 (Europe – 2; Asia, Australia, and Oceania – 2, Africa – 2; North, Central America and the Caribbean /NORCECA/ – 2; South America – 2). The remaining 12 spots will be handed via qualifying tournament in which 24 teams that have not yet been booked their tickets for the World Championship will take part, but according to the FIVB Ranking.
