The All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VFV) invited the 60-year-old Brazilian coach Bernardo Rezende to head Russia Women’s National Team at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo to which „Zbornaya“ booked a ticket via 2019 FIVB International Qualifier.
This news was published in the blog of O Globo journalist Ancelmo Gois. Bernardino confirmed to him that he got an offer from “Zbornaya“ but he refused it just as he would refuse an invitation to lead again the Men’s National Team of his country, with whom he won the gold medal at the Olympic Games twice (2004, 2016). According to Bernardino, there is no need for anyone to think he will take over „Seleção“ because Renan Dal Zotto is doing a great job in his first cycle as head coach. The legendary expert said that he will only be dedicated to working with the Women’s club SESC RJ, which he has been coaching since 2004.
Recall that the head coach of Russia Women’s National Team, Vadim Pankov, resigned after losing the quarter-finals of the 2019 CEV European Championship to Italy. At the ongoing FIVB World Cup, Russia are led by his assistant coach Sergio Busato, who was suspended by the FIVB prior to EuroVolley due to making a racist gesture at the FIVB Olympic Qualifier.
