Salparov, the long-time Bulgaria National Team member, announced that a club for which he competed last season, Russia’s Gazprom-Yugra, refused his services for 2020/21 in a way that can be considered ungentlemanlike.
As media in Bulgaria reported, the 37-year-old libero learned that by accident, after speaking to one of the staff members who told him that his salary of € 50,000 is too much for the club budget. However, Salparov claimed that he head a verbal agreement with Rafael Khabibullin, the head coach of the Surgut team which included not only to play next season but to assist him as well. On the other hand, Khabibullin stated for Russian media that he had never given his world to the 2012 London Olympics Best Digger and the 2015 CEV Champions League Best Libero.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Gazprom-Yugra have fallen into a financial crisis, saying goodbye to nine players from the last season’s roster.
