The management of the second most titled (eight-time winners) side in the Women’s Champions League, Uralochka, made the decision to withdraw from participation in the tournament due to the difficult epidemiological situation in the country but also in the world.
To illustrate how difficult it would be to play the competition, the Ekaterinburg club explained on its website that it was supposed to start the pool stage in Italy, then move to France, while these countries introduced restrictions, including a curfew, the mandatory wearing of masks in the open, and prohibited movements within the country from region to region.
Slovenia’s Calcit Volley Kamnik (eliminated in the 2nd Qualifying Round) will replace Uralochka in Pool B. Recall that the 2021 Champions League is to be held in a new format and in ‘bubbles’.
