The verdict of the CAS on a dispute between Russia and WADA wasn’t as harsh as everyone expected. For two years, instead of four, Russian athletes will compete at the Olympics and World Championships without using national symbols. In addition, in the next two years, Russia won’t be able to host major international competitions or bid to host them. It means that those tournaments which were awarded to Russia should be moved to other countries but only if it is doable. This, for example, might apply to the 2022 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship.
The decision is up to the FIVB. However, Mirosław Przedpełski, a former president of the Polish Volleyball Federation (PZPS), now the official of the FIVB and consultant for the Russians for the 2022 World Championship, said that transferring the event isn’t an option at this point because all contracts for the organization were signed much prior to the punishment Russia received. So, it’s hardly likely that some country would undertake the organization less than two years before the competition.
