The Russian Men’s Volleyball Championship contenders in a previous couple of seasons, Zenit Saint Petersburg, secured the first signing for the 2022/23 season by which they closed one position in the team.
The first newcomer to Zenit St. Petersburg in the summer transfer window is Dmitriy Kovalev. However, the word “newbie” can’t be applied to him to the fullest since a 31-year-old former Russia National Team member has already worn their jersey in the period from 2019 to 2021. Kovalev spent the past season at Belogorie, where he was by far the main setter: 27 matches in the Superliga Paribet, 100 sets, and 88 points.
Hiring the 2-time FIVB VNL winner, Zenit closed the setter’s department for 2022/23 as they extended with Igor Kobzar earlier.
