Kuzbass
Kuzbass downed Belogorie for the second time this season. In Round 23 opening of the Russian men’s volleyball championship Superliga, Kuzbass beat title contenders in four sets, partially 25-16, 16-25, 25-18, 25-22, adding another triumph over Belogorie after eliminating them in the semifinals of the national cup.
Viktor Poletaev poured in 25 points (4 aces, 3 kill blocks) for Kuzbass, while Inal Tavasiev added 5 kill blocks (12 points). Dmitriy Muserskiy scored 12 points for Belogorie, who underachieved in reception by making only 29%.
With this win, Kuzbass broke a four-game losing streak in Superliga and returned to the playoff zone in the standings, reducing Belogorie’s chances to replace Zenit Kazan at the top in the regular stage to the minimum. Belogorie will now have to focus on defending the position No.2 for which they need only one more win.
