Halkbank were coached by foreign experts since 2012. It was a fruitful strategy for most of the times, but the elimination in the playoff semifinals to Fenerbahçe last season made the officials of the Ankara team turn over a new leaf, starting from the 2019/20.
Halkbank appointed domestic expert Taner Atik, until now an assistant coach, as a head coach. He has been working with the club for 10 straight years during which Halkbank won four Turkish Championships, three national Cups, four Super Cups and one CEV Cup. Atik will replace Italian Alberto Giuliani.
Earlier, Halkbank announced parting ways with both setters, Arslan Ekşi and Italian Michele Baranowicz (went to Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia) and middle blocker Kemal Kayhan. The Serbian opposite hitter Dražen Luburić is heading towards the exit door.
