The arch at the entrance of Gazi University – a public university whose courses are currently attended by about 70,000 undergraduates – has been completely re-designed in order to advertise the Final Four Tournament where the hosts of Halkbank will be going for home glory and try to win their first title in the competition after claiming last year’s CEV Volleyball Cup. This arch is normally decorated with a welcome message addressed to the students of Gazi University, but the organisers were to negotiate a deal in order to re-shape it with the emblems of the CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League. Once the tournament draws to a close, the arch will return back to its ordinary lay-out.
On Sunday, the day where the title of Europe’s elite competition will be at stake, many young boys and girls will be taking on admission tests in order to join the various faculties available at Gazi University, an institute that was established back in 1926 by Turkey’s founding father Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. The organisers hope that on their way back home many of these students will stop by the Baskent Volleyball Hall and join the crowd that will support Matey Kaziyski and the other home heroes on their quest for glory.
