The saga is over: Italian expert Daniele Santarelli, who won the 2022 FIVB Women’s World Championship with Serbia, has been appointed as the head coach of the Turkey Women’s National Team. It’s a logical outcome after his statement a few days ago. Details of the agreement will be announced next week at a press conference to be held jointly by Turkish federation (TVF) President Mehmet Akif Üstündağ and Santarelli.

Even though the 41-year-old coach has quantitatively measured more titles on a club level (one CEV Champions League, two FIVB Club World Championships, four Italian Championships and Super Cups, and three Italian Cups—all with Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano), the biggest success for him came as a national team head coach—as we said, the gold medal in the last World Championship. Santarelli made the choice to terminate the contract with the Serbian federation (OSS), which was certainly dictated by the financial weight of the Turkish offer. Despite the fact that the terms of his contract with TVF have yet to be revealed, he’ll receive 200,000 EUR per year instead of 50,000 EUR from Serbians, committing himself to the Turkey Women until 2026.

Will Giovanni Guidetti replace him on the Serbian bench as Turkish and Serbian media speculated? Another Italian expert, more experienced, seems to be the main candidate to command Tijana Bošković and her teammates to a new sporting cycle.
