EC M: Belarus celebrates historic qualification for final round

Belarus qualified for the final round of the 2013 CEV Volleyball European Championship – a real premiere in the history of the competition – after finishing atop of the standings in Pool A via their 3:2 win over Great Britain (20-25, 25-14, 23-25, 25-19, and 15-11) in the last day of action in Ankara.

The match starring Belarus and Great Britain turned into a real marathon; the score remained very close in the opening set up 18 all, before the Brits pulled away to seize this section of the game with the score of 25-20.

Belarus totally dominated set 2 (25-14) and stretched that tempo to set 3 (16:12) before Great Britain stormed back to go for the 2:1.

Belarus set the pace all the way through in set 4 (8:4, 16:10, 25-19) and called for the tie-break where they went up 10:4 before Great Britain clawed back to -1 (12:11). However, Belarus scored the next three points to finish it off and cap a memorable campaign. Dami Bakare of Team GB topped the charts of the best scorers with 26 points.
