The USA beat Russia for the second time in the World League 2014. The second game went much easier for hosts than the first one.

Russia coach Sergio Busato:

“Our team tried to play better in the second set after the bad first set. In the second set we started to play well then in the third set, the USA was not making errors and our team’s skills were off.”

USA coach John Speraw:

I am pleased we were able to go 2-0 this weekend. Obviously losing Reid (Priddy) last week was going to be a challenge to see who was going to fill that spot and how we would replace his leadership. I certainly feel like we did a good job with that. I think Sean Rooney and Paul Lotman over the course of these two matches did a good job.

“As we move forward, we are going to have to continue to improve. This has been a learning opportunity for a lot of guys who are experiencing their first World League opportunity like Taylor Sander and Micah Christenson. I think we are getting some really solid play out of Matt Anderson. I am really pleased at how he is performing at opposite since he has not played there since November. Max Holt continues to play well and I am really pleased at how Erik Shoji is playing libero. I think he really had an outstanding match tonight.

“I think it is a nice experience to play at home. We are very grateful to play in Southern California. We train here and all our families are here. It was a really nice atmosphere and we really appreciate the opportunity to play here in front of a big crowd.”
