The Serbian men’s volleyball team claimed their second victory in Pool A at EuroVolley 2023 by defeating Belgium with a 3-1 scoreline (25-22, 18-25, 25-20, 25-20).
In the first set, both teams fought fiercely with no side gaining a substantial lead. Belgium was ahead 22-21, but a powerful four-point streak from Serbia clinched them the set. Despite this setback, Belgium displayed tremendous spirit by starting the second set strongly, establishing a three-point lead (13-10) midway, and extending their advantage to level the match by the end of the set.
However, Serbia bounced back in the third set and efficiently closed out the match. Pavle Perić stood out as the top scorer for Serbia with 14 points, followed by Atanasijević with 11, and Marko Podraščanin contributing 10 points.
Looking ahead, Serbia will face host Italy on Friday. For Belgium, Ferre Reggers was the standout player, scoring 17 points, while Sam Deroo and Mathijs Desmed each contributed 15 points.
In the second match of Pool A, host Italy continued with convincing performances. In their second appearance at this EuroVolley, Italy defeated Estonia in straight sets (25-17, 25-22, 25-19). Oliver Venno of Estonia was the top scorer of the match with 15 points, while Yuri Romano was the most effective player for the winning team with 18 points.
