Zé Roberto is currently engaged with Brazil national team in the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, which came just after his team secured promotion to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games via FIVB International Qualifier. And the event in the capital of Japan is going to be the last tournament in which legendary expert will be at the helm of the “Seleção”.

In a live interview for the TV show Bem, Amigos!, a 3-time Olympic Games winner (one-time with Brazil Men and twice with Brazil Women) Zé Roberto revealed that the ongoing Pan American Games will be his last as Brazil head coach. Furthermore, the expert revealed that in one year, at the end of the Tokyo Olympic Games, he will no longer be the head coach of the national team.

“For sure it will be my last Olympics. I’ve been in the Women’s team for 16 years. It’s time for another coach to take this job. We’re investing a lot in our base. We have a very good generation coming for 2024 and 2028, at least 10 or 12 girls with 1.90m or more. We’ve never had a generation of this stature and quality,” Zé Roberto stated.

Zé Roberto has a suggestion about his replacement on Brazil Women bench.

“I’d like Paulinho (Paulo Coco) to take over. He knows a lot about Volleyball, but it’s up to the Federation to appoint the new coach,” he added.
