Savino Del Bene Scandicci are through to the 4th Round (pool stage) of the 2021 CEV Women’s Volleyball Champions League.

Italy’s Savino Del Bene Scandicci became the first team to secure advancement to the pool stage of the 2021 women’s Champions League through the qualifications.

It seemed like a formality given the outcome of the 1st leg and it turned out it really was – The Serie A side repeated the confident play and beat Ukraine’s Khimik Youzhny in the rematch of the 2nd Round as well: 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-11). Scandicci hosted both encounters, which were held day after a day. The Pole Magdalena Stysiak scored 18 points for the winning side, while Enrica Metlo made 83 % reception (42 % perfect).

One more duel of the 2nd Round was to be held today but Russia’s Dinamo Moscow and Germany’s Allianz MTV Stuttgart couldn’t agree on where to play their duel.

Given that their country’s health authorities would oblige Stuttgart players to go into a five-day quarantine upon returning from the Russian capital where the 1st leg was scheduled, while Dinamo players would have to go to the five-quarantine upon the arrival to Germany for the rematch, the European Volleyball Federation (CEV) proposed a neutral ground. Furthermore, it proposed that only one game should be played.

Stuttgart insist on Poland, Sweden, Denmark, and Switzerland but Dinamo say they have no transport communication with these countries and suggested Turkey and Belarus as hosts. Stuttgart then responded they would have to go to the quarantine upon returning home from these countries. The CEV hasn’t yet reached a “verdict“.

2021 CEV Women’s Volleyball Champions League, 2nd Round – 2nd leg:

Khimik Yuzhny – Savino Del Bene Scandicci 0-2 (16-25, 19-25, 11-25)

Dinamo Moscow – Allianz MTV Stuttgart, postponed
