As Gian Luca Pasini reported in his blog, it’s hardly likely that all the best players of some national teams will be sent to play the 2021 VNL. Allegedly, the federations of Italy, Russia, and Poland had asked the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) for an exception for registering players for the event as they want to avoid exhaustion in their key players during the period during which it is held.
The problem certain federations see is that the club season in Europe ends at the beginning of May with the CEV Champions League Super Finals. That competition is followed by the VNL bubble in Rimini, Italy. So, for the top players, it would practically mean they would play continuously – from their clubs to the national team for the VNL and then to the Tokyo Olympics. European nations have to play the continental championship in September as well.
At the moment, the FIVB isn’t willing to allow the expansion of the list of players called up, as requested by the national federations.

VNL means nothing to Chinese Women’s team, only Olympic and World Championship matter.
Re: @Scott Li That’s too much of a generalization. If you read one of coach Lang Ping’s news quotes, the team needs practice from real competition. It has been a while since the National Team has played in any international competition.
