Some volleyball federations don’t want to send best players to VNL

It is very questionable whether some of the national teams will compete in the upcoming FIVB Volleyball Nations League with the best players they have or not.

As Gian Luca Pasini reported in his blog, it's hardly likely that all the best players of some national teams will be sent to play the 2021 VNL. Allegedly, the federations of Italy, Russia, and Poland had asked the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) for an exception for registering players for the event as they want to avoid exhaustion in their key players during the period during which it is held.

The problem certain federations see is that the club season in Europe ends at the beginning of May with the CEV Champions League Super Finals. That competition is followed by the VNL bubble in Rimini, Italy. So, for the top players, it would practically mean they would play continuously - from their clubs to the national team for the VNL and then to the Tokyo Olympics. European nations have to play the continental championship in September as well.

At the moment, the FIVB isn’t willing to allow the expansion of the list of players called up, as requested by the national federations.

VNL means nothing to Chinese Women's team, only Olympic and World Championship matter.

Re: @Scott Li That's too much of a generalization. If you read one of coach Lang Ping's news quotes, the team needs practice from real competition. It has been a while since the National Team has played in any international competition.

ITA M: Perugia focused on bringing Grbić

He signed a 2-years contract with Zaksa last year. He won Polish Cup with them, not sure what happened so Zaksa lost the championship. They kicked out Lube and Zenit from the Champions League and have a good chance of becoming European champion although Trentino didn't win anything this year so this is their last chance.
He started his coaching career with Perugia so everything is possible... Reply

USA M: Russell undergoes surgery in US, will miss Tokyo Olympics

Russell had one of the best sports surgeons in the world work on him so I expect he will be in great hands. While devastating for any athlete Russell is young enough to have both Paris and Los Angeles in his Olympic future at very high level.
Piacenza is building something very special there and Russell is a perfect type of player and professional to attract others to come there and build around.
Wishing him a full and speedy recovery. Reply
