Asseco Resovia Rzeszów inflicted the first defeat to Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle, not only in the 2020/21 Polish Men’s Volleyball Championship but in the season overall.

In a delayed match of the 10th round of the 2020/21 Polish Men’s PlusLiga regular season, Resovia (6th in the charts) defeated the reigning champions and also leaders ZAKSA in the tie-break, previously dropping 2-0 in sets. Partially, it was 25-19, 25-21, 17-25, 19-25, and 16-14.

Resovia managed to do what no other team could, either in Poland or beyond – to stop the incredible winning streak of ZAKSA, which has started with the first match of the season and consisted of 27 games to today (19 in the league, 2 in the Super Cup, and 6 in the CEV Champions League)! However, this doesn’t change the fact that the titleholders are very close to winning the regular season given that they have 11 points more than the closest followers Jastrzębski Węgiel, and 6 more matches to play.

Karol Butryn highlighted Resovia today with 29 points. Slovenian Klemen Čebulj served 5 aces, while Estonian Timo Tammemaa had 4 blocks.

In Round 23, Indykpol AZS Olsztyn stunned 4th-placed Trefl Gdańsk and swept them by a 3-0. Damian Schulz tallied 16 points, including 4 blocks, on the winning side.
