WCHY M: Brazil and Russia both advanced with maximum points

Brazil and Russia qualified with perfect records to the round of sixteen of the FIVB Boys’ U19 World Championship in both Tijuana and Mexicali.

Both teams won all their matches by 3-0 score to collect the maximum twelve points at their four games during the preliminary pool round.

Brazil completed their winning streak with quick victory in straight sets 25-15, 25-23, 25-15 over Algeria in Pool D, while Russia finished Finland also in consecutive sets 25-14, 25-15, 25-20 in Pool C.

Poland and Argentina were the other two pool winners with 11 points in Pools A and B respectively.


Poland breezed past Belgium in straight sets 25-22, 25-13, 25-21 and Argentina downed Turkey 25-20, 25-17, 25-20.

In the round of the last sixteen teams, Poland take on Turkey, Argentina meet hosts Mexico, Russia clash with United States and Brazil entertain Finland.

China, Cuba, Iran and Korea qualified in second place in Pools A, B, C and D respectively.

In the next round, China face Chile, Cuba battle Belgium, Iran meet Egypt and Korea go against France.

Teams Tunisia, Japan, Rwanda and Algeria will contest a round-robin for the 17-20 positions.
