After the game, head coach of the winning team Jose Guimaraes said:

We are happy about the result. We had our ups and downs. We lost eight counterattacks in the second set which made it difficult for us. We practiced less than 15 days before coming here. We have to keep going.”

USA coachKarch Kiraly:

“I don’t think either team played the way they want to. We are not in midseason form. Hopefully we can get better before the next match in 24 hours. We must improve in all parts of our game. Our goal is to someday have the U.S. win the gold at the Olympics, World Championships or World Cup. My job is to help facilitate this.”

Brazil captain – Fabiana Claudino:

It was a good game. The first and second sets were very tight. The third set we played much better.”

USA captain – Kristin Hildebrand:

“This was a disappointing start for our team. Brazil is a great team and they showed it. We had chances to win both the first and second sets and didn’t do it.
