Last week, the Cuban Yonady Leal who plays for Sada Cruzeiro Vôlei, managed to get Brazilian citizenship and now, he can officially play for Brazil’s National Team in two years (under the rules of the FIVB). But, some players don’t like this idea…

The 23-year-old Leal defended colors of the Cuban National Team at the 2010 World Championship where was voted the MVP of the tournament. That’s one of the reasons why prominent Brazilian player Murilo Endres thinks Leal shouldn’t play for Brazil’s NT and become his teammate.

“This is not a specific case, but I do not particularly like these naturalizations. Anyone who has played against another national team, and we’ve played against him in the finals of the World Championship, should not be able to naturalize… It is not my decision, but if he is summoned and becomes my teammate, I will treat him like all the others, without any problem. I will welcome him well,” said Murilo.

Murilo is afraid of what Leal can do with Brazil NT, he knows he is not playing his best since London because of his physical condition and the presence of the cuban in the national team can put him on the bench. Leal plays with four NT players and most of the group accepts him. He can make great duo with Lucarelli, they are in great shape and can improve a lot playing together, maybe not next year at Rio, but in 2018 WC.

Murilo was MVP of the FIVB WCH in 2010 in Italy. MVP is always from the winning team.

Not always from the winning team, but in recent world championships, you are right.
