Hungary’s 1. MCM-Diamant Kaposvár failed to make another historical step for women’s volleyball in their country. They became the first Hungarian club to play the semifinal of any of the European cups. And their path was cut off right there as Romania’s C.S.M. Volei Alba Blaj won the rematch, too: 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 27-25, 25-21). Ioana Maria Baciu tallied 24 points on the winning side. Serbian Sara Klisura and Azerbaijani Olena Kharchenko scored 18 points apiece for Kaposvár.
It seems that duels between Turkish rivals Sistem9 Yeşilyurt İstanbul and THY İstanbul are destined to be resolved in the tie-break. Just like in the 1st leg yesterday, Yeşilyurt achieved a win and scheduled a gold medal encounter against Alba. Romanian sensation Alexia-Ioana Căruțașu was once again the leading scorer for the winners but she didn’t repeat a 47-point output from the previous game. The teenager put down 27 points, while Zeynep Sude Demirel set up 5 of the team’s 20 blocks. Ebrar Karakurt highlighted THY with 33 points. Aslı Kalaç made 4 blocks.
