Russia defeated Azerbaijan at the 2021 CEV Women’s Volleyball European Championship thanks to a fabulous service display of Arina Fedorovtseva.
The rejuvenated Russia National Team once again beat skepticism with which it was escorted to the CEV Women’s EuroVolley 2021 by the fans and media in the country. True, ‘Zbornaya’ faced two outsiders in Pool A in Belgrade (Serbia) in the first two rounds. After France, the ladies coached by Italian Sergio Busato downed Azerbaijan in straight sets. The 17-year-old Arina Fedorovtseva, who has established herself a pillar even in the strongest Russian squad that competed in the Tokyo Olympics, is the leader of this team in the continental championship. She served fabulous 11 aces against Azerbaijan! Fedorovtseva finished the match with 24 points.
In the match of the third round of Pool C in Zadar, Croatia achieved its third maximum victory, beating Slovakia 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-13). The beginning of the match did not give a hint of such a convincing win, as Slovaks had 19-12. Then, the pool host woke up and made a 6-0 run that allowed it to return to the opening set. Interestingly, 11 points was the highest mark any of the players, taking both sides into consideration, reached in the encounter. Four of these came from the winner (Butigan /five blocks/, Mlinar, Fabris, and Miloš), while one came from Slovakia (Palgutová ).
