The golden tale of the Italian volleyball youth categories continued: the women’s U17 national team became the European champion.
After 21 years, the U17 Italy Women’s National Team returned to the top step of the podium at the CEV European Championship. Thus, the golden tale of summer 2022 of the Italian base categories continued with the fourth continental title. This extraordinary series of titles now consists of those taken by Men’s U22 and U18 teams, Women’s U21 team (all from last week), and the latest – of Women’s U17 team. In the final match in Hradec Králové, Czech Republic, the ‘Azzurrine’ managed to beat the only team that had been able to overcome them in the group stage, Turkey, 3-1 (25-16, 23-25, 25-20, 25-22).
The 15-year-old Merit Adigwe top-scored Italy in the final with 21 points. Her teammate and one-year older player Safa Allaoui was named MVP of the event.
