For the first time in the history of the German volleyball, their Men’s national team has qualified for the finals of the Continental Championship. The Germans were in knock-down for the whole two sets but then raised from the ashes to make a turnaround in Kraków, partially 24-26, 15-25, 25-18, 27-25, 15-13.
Thanks to a huge serving display with whom they totally destroyed German reception, which resulted in good blocking due to a scattered organization of German attacks, Serbia won the first two sets.
The things have gotten the other way round in the third and for the most of the fourth set. Still, Serbia seemed to be closer to the finals as they had two match balls in the fourth set but failed to convert them. In the tie-break, Serbia had everything in their hands again, being in the lead by a 10-8.
Georg Grozer, who could not find pace in the first two sets, started to score in the rest of the match, while the German block, in which Marcus Böhme stood out, did a great job in the finish of the fourth set and in the tie-break.
Grozer collected 20 points for the German side while Uroš Kovačević scored 19 for Serbia, who lacked a contribution of their opposites (Dražen Luburić 7, Aleksandar Atanasijević 6 points).
