The first week of the 2019 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League is going perfect for Italy who, despite lacking several important players like Egonu, Chirichella, De Gennaro, etc, scored the second victory in as many matches. On Day 2, Italy swept Thailand by a 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 26-24) in Pool 1 in Opole, Poland.
Elena Pietrini top-scored for the winning side with 16 points. Onuma Sittirak scored 8 points for Thailand who was unable to make another upset after beating Germany yesterday.
In a duel of the two national teams that succumbed to their rivals in the opening day, Pool 1 hosts Poland achieved a hard-fought win over Germany: 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-23, 26-24). Malwina Smarzek amazed once again, finishing the match with 32 points (3 aces) for Poland. Louisa Lippmann tallied 23 for Germany, including 4 kill blocks.
