Belgium successfully completed the first week of the 2019 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League – Preliminary Round (Pool 2).

After making a comeback from 0-2 to 3-2 against Pool 2 hosts Bulgaria, yesterday, Belgium made an upset on Day 3 of the 2019 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League, Pool 2.

The “Yellow Tigers“, the no.16 in the FIVB ranking, surpassed the No.6 six in the world, Japan, by a 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-18).

Britt Herbots led Belgium’s scorers with 23 points, while Yuki Ishii topped Japan, for the third straight time with 20 points to finish the first weekend of the tournament as the best scorer of her national team.

The United States have three out of three in the first week of the 2019 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League.

The rejuvenated U.S. national team with eight players finding themselves on a senior national team list for the first time in their careers concluded the opening week of the Nations League with a perfect record in Pool 2. The Americans out-blocked Pool 2 hosts Bulgaria by a 14-3 and sweep their rivals by a 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-21).

Sarah Wilhite was the most productive player for the winning side with 16 points, while Dana Rettke set up 5 kill blocks. Miroslava Paskova noted 12 points for Bulgaria. The U.S. team will travel to Italy for the second week of the tournament without an outside hitter Mikaela Foecke who is getting married.

USA – Bulgaria 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-21)

Pool 3 (Brasília, Brazil):

China – Dominican Republic 3-1 (16-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-23)

Brazil – Russia 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-14)

Pool 4: (Belgrade, Serbia):

Netherlands – South Korea 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-18)

Turkey – Serbia 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-20)
