VNL W: “F…, I’m speaking in Italian!“ Lavarini makes himself and Polish players laugh during timeout (VIDEO)

Looking at the performance of the Poland Women’s National Team in the preliminary stage of the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Nations League, their head coach Stefano Lavarini will have to work hard to overcome many weaknesses of his players but also his own…

The adventure of one of the best coaches in the world, Lavarini, at the helm of the national team of Poland didn’t start in the best way. He and his players had to settle for 13th place in the preliminary phase of the VNL 2022. Even though he couldn’t count on two highly important players in the competition, Smarzek and Stysiak, the Italian expert found himself under the criticism of Polish media, especially after the match against China.

Even though the moment isn’t funny at all for Poland Women, there’s always room for laughter. Lavarini fell victim to an oversight during the match against the Dominican Republic. He called timeout in a difficult moment of the match, at 2-6 in the tie-break (later lost by Poland). In the excitement of the moment, however, the coach of Igor Gorgonzola Novara on a club level started the timeout in Italian, forgetting his international role for a moment. Noticing the mistake when facing the looks of confused Polish players, Lavarini laughed: “F***, I’m speaking in Italian!“ This made players laugh too and unintentionally resolved the tension. Of course, Lavarini then used English to resume giving instructions to his wards.
