The Volleyball Nations League (VNL) 2023’s Pool 5 saw the glimmers of victory for Argentina and France in the third week of preliminary rounds held in Anaheim, United States.
Olympic bronze medalists from Tokyo, Argentina, gave an impressive performance against Serbia, ending the game with a 3-1 score (19-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-18). This victory bolstered Argentina’s prospects for securing a place in the VNL 2023 Finals scheduled from July 19-23 in Gdansk, Poland.
Argentina’s success could be attributed to their team captain Luciano De Cecco’s return, who had missed the previous week’s matches. De Cecco’s impeccable synergy with Bruno Lima, who topped the score chart with 18 points, was instrumental in the team’s win. From Serbia, Miran Kujundžić was the leading scorer with 16 points, followed by Drazen Luburic with 12 points.
France, in its concurrent game in Pool 5, seized a 3-0 victory over Iran (25-18, 25-22, 25-19). French player Timothee Carle led the scoring board with 17 points, while Stephen Boyer added 11 points to the tally. From Iran’s side, Morteza Sharifi was the top scorer with 8 points, supported by Seyed Mousavi and Amirhossein Esfandiar, contributing 7 points each.
