
The FIVB leadership continues its global efforts to expand volleyball, now focusing on the Middle East.
During a meeting at FIVB Headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, FIVB President Fabio Azevedo and Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Secretary General Jassim bin Rashid Al-Buenain discussed strategies to enhance volleyball’s development in Qatar.
This follows discussions from December 2024, reinforcing the FIVB Strategic Vision 2032, which promotes professionalism, integration, empowerment, and mass participation.
Qatar has a strong volleyball legacy, especially in beach volleyball. Olympians Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan won bronze at Tokyo 2020, and Doha regularly hosts major events like the Beach Pro Tour Finals. In 2024, Qatar successfully organized the first-ever junior women’s beach volleyball championship in the Middle East, backed by Olympic Solidarity.
With continued collaboration, Qatar aims to play a key role in advancing the sport in the region.
