The 2025 FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Championship Pool D began in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. The United States defeated Slovenia 3-1, while Argentina overcame the Czechia in four sets.

USA Defeated Slovenia
The U.S. Women’s National Team opened with a 3-1 (25-23, 17-25, 25-22, 25-14) victory over Slovenia. Making their World Championship debut, Slovenia challenged the Americans in the first three sets before fading in the fourth.
Avery Skinner led with 15 points, while her sister Madisen added 13. Sarah Franklin reached 10 points, and Chiaka Ogbogu marked her return with eight. Head coach Erik Sullivan praised his team’s grit but called for a sharper start in upcoming matches.
Slovenia’s Fatoumatta Sillah impressed with 20 points, backed by Nika Milošič (13) and Eva Zatkovič (12).
Argentina Rallies Past Czechia
Earlier, Argentina fought back from a set down to defeat the Czechia 3-1 (18-25, 25-23, 25-17, 26-24). Bianca Cugno powered the win with 25 points, supported by Erika Bertolino (13) and Antonela Bulaich (10).
After dropping the first set, Argentina tightened its defense, controlled the third, and staged a late comeback in the fourth to seal the match.
What’s Next
With the wins, the U.S. and Argentina sit at 1-0 ahead of their clash on Sunday, August 24. Slovenia will face the Czechia as both teams look for their first victory.
